The Museum of Australian Democracy acknowledges the traditional owners and custodians of country throughout Australia. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to the people, the cultures and the elders past, present and emerging.

The museum respectfully acknowledges the role that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continue to play in shaping Australia’s democracy.

    Staff gone mad?

If you visited the museum in past couple of weeks you may have seen staff members crawling around on their hands and knees looking at the furniture. There is a perfectly good reason for this… our annual stocktake!

The museum has a fantastic collection of highly significant objects, and as managers of this collection it is imperative that we care for it in the most appropriate manner. One part of this is by doing an annual stocktake so that each object or asset is accounted for and in good condition.

The stocktake teams consist of our Heritage and Finance staff, as well as willing staff members from other teams in the museum. This is a great experience for staff members as there are many interesting and unusual objects in our collection storage areas. This year we have taken stock of just under 4,000 objects, which took our four teams two weeks to complete.
