Welcome to Australia
Visitors have been writing heartfelt messages of welcome to new migrants at our exhibition The Gift.
Know that you are always loved and accepted and valued in this country whatever your hopes and dreams and talents may be.

The exhibition celebrates the role migrants have played in shaping the social, political and cultural fabric of Australian life. Some messages draw on the writer’s personal experience of migration; others include travel tips and recommendations, drawings of wattle, kangaroo and the Sydney Habour Bridge. One card even explains the proper way to eat a Tim-Tam!
We were delighted to present these cards to new migrants at a citizenship ceremony at Canberra’s Albert Hall on 22 May 2018.
There was also a selection of cards from students at the culturally diverse Meadows Primary School in the electorate of Calwell. Labor MP Maria Vamvakinou presented these cards on behalf of the students.
MoAD Director Daryl Karp said:
It fills me with great joy to see our democratic message of hope and freedom spread beyond the walls of the museum.
If you’d like to write your own message, you can do so in The Gift exhibition. Now open. We look forward to taking your message to the next citizenship ceremony.
