The Museum of Australian Democracy acknowledges the traditional owners and custodians of country throughout Australia. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to the people, the cultures and the elders past, present and emerging.

The museum respectfully acknowledges the role that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continue to play in shaping Australia’s democracy.

    Franklin River Workshop Debate: 1983

Students explore both sides of the issue during the Franklin River Debate Workshop.

Relive history and explore the impact of ‘people power’ during the 1983 Franklin River Debate.

During the Franklin River Debate Workshop, students will explore conservation issues as they examine objects that uncover both sides of the Tasmanian dam debate.

In one of either the heritage House of Representatives or Senate chambers, they will have the chance to role-play in costume as historic Australian politicians debating the World Heritage Properties Conservation Bill 1983, in the very place that it happened.

This program is eligible for the Parliamentary and Civics Education Rebate (PACER). For your school to receive the rebate you must apply at least three weeks before your visit.
