Dilapidated skyscrapers read, 'Queensland' and 'Bond'. People knock at a large 'Victorian corporations' building, others jump from the top of it. Someone says, 'What is it – world financial collapse?' Another says, 'No – the ABC A-Corners team!'

Four Corners is the world’s second-longest-running public affairs television program (after the BBC’s Panorama). In the decades since it began in 1961, the program has proved its worth to the nation by speaking truth to power and helping sustain democracy. This Bruce Petty cartoon from the 1980s captures journalism’s role in providing public access to important and often suppressed information.
