A Pope's Humble and Final Gesture
Matt Golding
Pope Francis died on 21 April aged 88. He had been the head of the Catholic Church for 12 years. His funeral was attended by many world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Prince William (representing King Charles III) and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. In contrast to the pomp and ceremony of his public farewell, Pope Francis chose to be buried in a simple wooden coffin.
