The post-election bloodletting was not confined to the parties that had lost seats in the lower and upper houses. Ed Husic had been Minister for Industry and Science in the previous government, but he did not get a portfolio after the 2025 election, reportedly as a result of factional moves within the party. Husic believed it was because he had spoken out about the Gaza conflict and called Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles a ‘factional assassin’.
