The Liberal Party's Women Problem

Two months after the election, when parliament reopened, the Liberal Party only had six women members in the House of Representatives. The idea of instituting quotas in the party to ensure more women candidates was raised but swiftly rejected by party stalwarts such as former prime minister John Howard.
