The Museum of Australian Democracy acknowledges the traditional owners and custodians of country throughout Australia. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to the people, the cultures and the elders past, present and emerging.

The museum respectfully acknowledges the role that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continue to play in shaping Australia’s democracy.

Which programs are eligible for the Parliamentary and Civics Education Rebate (PACER)?

All onsite programs are eligible for PACER unless otherwise stated. Check our program list.

Is there access for students with special needs?

Students with special needs can be dropped off at the main stairs immediately in front of the building. There are disabled access ramps into the lower security entrance either side of the main stairs. Lifts provide access to all levels of the building. Wheelchairs are available upon request.

We have Social Narratives for students on the autism spectrum visiting the museum. We also have a sensory box option as part of our onsite primary program – Who’s the Boss? Please let us know at time of booking or before your arrival if you have a student with any special needs so we can provide support. For more information please see MoAD Venue and Safety Information document.

    Can we shorten our program?

No. Each program is one hour in length. To receive the PACER stamp the school is required to participate in the program for the allocated time. For more information please see the booking information page and this document Terms and Conditions of booking a program.

Can we book more than one program?

Yes, depending upon booking and space availability. If you have any questions contact bookings at bookings@moadoph.gov.au or phone (02) 6270 8282. For more information please go to our programs page.

Are there pre and post activities?

We have a diverse range of pre and post learning activities and resources to prepare your students for their excursion.

    • Kahoot quizzes
    • A history of Old Parliament House
    • Resources
    • Democracy: Our House, Our Voices
    • Preparing for your visit

    Are there onsite toilet facilities?

There are limited toilet facilities within the building. In order to ensure that your group has the maximum opportunity to experience your booked program, we recommend allowing sufficient time before or after the program to use the toilet blocks in the adjoining Old Parliament House Rose Gardens

What if we are running late for our program?

Please contact us as soon as possible to notify us of any delays by phoning MoAD Bookings on (02) 6270 8282 or MoAD Learning mobile 0419 301 377. In the case of a school being unavoidably delayed, we may be able to condense the program depending upon space availability and resources. It does mean that students could miss out on a key learning experience. This Terms and Conditions document provides more detailed information

What should I do if our numbers change?

Please contact us as soon as possible at bookings@moadoph.gov.au or phone (02) 6270 8282. All our programs are facilitated by staff based on confirmed numbers. We have capped maximum numbers for our onsite education programs to accommodate heritage access requirements, WH&S and provide rich learning opportunities. This Terms and Conditions document provides more detailed information.

What is the teacher to student ratio?

We recommend a ratio of one teacher/adult per ten students to ensure duty of care for the program and the excursion visit. Teachers/adults accompanying a school group are free of charge. Bookings for school groups and education programs is essential.
