Australian Dream Heritage Listing

Text reads, 'The Australian Dream Heritage Listing.' People try to navigate an MC Escher-like maze of stairs, with labels like 'Investor tax incentives' and 'Own someone else's home!' One person says, 'And how does it go as shelter?' another says, 'For tax and generational wealth, mainly!'

Home ownership was once widely considered to be the ‘Australian dream’. In recent times it become a much more expensive and difficult goal to achieve. David Pope draws on MC Escher’s famous lithograph Relativity to visually represent the disorienting and confusing process of buying a home in 2024. The slick real estate agent suggests that it could have something to do with the competition from investors who are seeking ‘shelter’ in the form of ‘tax and generational wealth’.
